The Challenge

3 Mini-Hackathons in 3 Cities

Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Manila

For each location,  business developers and digital innovators, programmers and web and app developers, and designers and creatives - will be engaged to produce an idea or system to address the issue of fake news and disinformation.

 

The hackathon will run online for a month and documentation need to be submitted for an offline hackathon and pitching day.  10-15 teams will be shortlisted and will be engaged in a 1-day seminar-workshop, mini-hackathon, and pitching competition. Winning teams from the local hackathons will be granted seed money and flown to Manilla to compete in the Grand Hackathon against other international teams, meet other local entrepreneurs in Manila, visit tech offices, connect with YSEALI members of Manila, and many others.

Invitation to the Grand Hackathon in Manila (fully covered flight and accomodation) on September 2019

Grand Prize

Receive as much as P100,000.00 in cash 

Consolation Prize

Receive cash prizes, free tour in Metro Manila, immersion to local tech offices, meet other entrepreneurs

Seed Money

All local winners will be awarded $200 cash prize.

 

About the Movement 

What is Break The Fake Movement?

Break the Fake Movement, a newly-organized independent group of young leaders from different professions and sectors, have committed to fighting against the spread of fake news by engaging the public especially the youth through different technology-related media literacy events.

 

Our group was organized last 2017, after attending a forum organized by the U.S. Embassy Manila.
